The area has two regeneration areas – Greater Pilton and a smaller area of Leith. North Edinburgh has a population of 123,000 people with 24,200 of those under the age of 19 years. There are 20 primary schools, 5 secondary schools, 18 nursery schools or classes, 5 child and family centres and 6 community centres and a c ommunity learning and development team offering a range of services to the local community. In addition to these there are a range of social work services available in the area. The area is set to change quite dramatically over the next 10 years with a major building project which will establish a new waterfront community stretching from Granton along the shore line to Leith.
